Overview

As part of the Gen 4.1 framework, Hope and Clay carried out junction improvement works at Ipley Cross in the New Forest. This project was designed to enhance road safety while preserving the sensitive habitat of the area.

Project Scope

The detailed scope of works included:

New Road Construction: Installation of a new road as part of the improvement works. This included constructing a piped culvert and headwall section over an existing ditch.
Turf Translocation: The existing New Forest turf was translocated from the new road alignment to the old road alignment to ensure the protected habitat was maintained. A dedicated turf bucket was specially fabricated for this task. This innovative method is understood to be the first time it has been used in the UK.
